On the 15th of February 360, at Mese, the central point of the Byzantine capital near the Great Palace, the church of Hagia Sophia was inaugurated, destined to become the symbol of Constantinople and of Byzantium in general. In the inauguration ceremony Ioannis Chrisostomos and Grigorios Nazianzinos delivered speeches. The initial church was severely damaged and was reconstructed on the 23rd of February 532 during the reign of the Justinian the Great. The architects of the second church were Anthemios and Isidoros.
