Artaki:
The last units of the Greek campaign body (units of the 3rd Army Corps) withdraw from Asia Minor. On 5 September 1922 their embarkation on ships has been completed in the port of Artaki and their conveyance in Eastern Thrace.
Dekeli:
The Independent Division after tough battles during the retreat and covering 600 kilometres in 15 days, managed to reach the area of Dekeli, where from on 31 August 1922 has been conveyed to Mytilene.
Cesme:
Between 31 August and 3 September 1922 the withdrawal of the units of 1st and 2nd Army Corps have been completed from Chesme, the westernmost point of the peninsula of Erythrea.
Smyrna:
In the morning of Saturday 27 August 1922 the last Greek army units withdraw from the city, while the political authorities alogn with the High Commissioner have already departed. A bit later the first irregular Turkish bands (tsetes) began entering Smyrna, where they engaged in persecutions and massacres in the Christian sector of the city. Between 30 August and 3 September a large part has been burned, resulting in the total devastation of the Greek, Armenian and Frankish (European) quarters.
Salihli:
Units of the Greek army put up a succesful resistance to the Turkish advance in the area of Salihli, a fact that allowed the retreat of the main volume of the Greek forces towards the western coast.
Line Eski Shehir, Kutahya, Afyon Karahisar:
On 13 August 1922 the Turkish offensive began. Very soon the Greek front split, while the next day Afyon Karahisar has been evacuated. On 14 August the general retreat of the Asia Minor Army has been decided, something that practically meant the debacle of the front. On 17 August the Battle of Ali Veran occurred, that resulted to the defeat and captivity of a large part of the Greek army.
