Battle of the Line
The final battle of the Earth/Minbari War, fought around Earth itself. The Earth Alliance put up a last ditch effort to defend itself against the oncoming Minbari forces, but were decimated. Of 20,000 men, only about 200 survived. Then, without explanation, the Minbari surrendered. It is later discovered that the Minbari surrendered so as to not harm their "souls".

Earth/Minbari War
War which broke out around the year 2245 when a First Contact situation with the Minbari went wrong. The captain of the Earth Alliance ship Prometheus interpreted the open gun ports of a Minbari ship (a Minbari sign of respect) as threatening and fired on it, destroying two Minbari ships and killing their leader, Dukhat. The Earth forces returned believing an invasion was imminent. It ended with the Battle of the Line around 2248.
