The material of this book, which describes the life and activities of the general Makrigiannis, is based on the memoirs of the fighter of the Greek Revolution. Markigiannis learned to read and write at a rather old age in order to testify his personal experiences, presenting his views on the Fight for Independence, the Civil War, the social and political problems of free Greece.

However, the particular element of the Memoirs, apart from their historical value as a testimony, is their special language. It is a language that is colorful, alive and full of misspellings and passion, which in the hands of Makrigiannis becomes a tool for the recording of events, evaluations and views, for testifying his whole life. The reader of the book has the opportunity to learn this particular language, through extracts, and at the same time to find information about significant developments of the Greek Revolution and the birth of the modern Greek state: the battle against Ibrahim at Myloi in Nafplion in 1825, the siege of Athens by Kutahye in 1826-1827, the election of Ioannis Kapodistrias as governor of Greece, his assassination and the arrival of Otto in 1833, the Movement of the 3rd of September 1843 for the enforcement of the Constitution are some of the events mentioned. This book also includes a chronology with all the important events of the international political scene.
