The author Mr. Kostas Pantazoglou, through the book ?Usak: My Homeland?, honors his father, who left his homeland, together with thousands of Asia Minor refugees in 1915. Apart from the history of his family, the author attempts to record life in Usak, through data regarding the economy, the customs of the land, the education, and religion. He provides information about the various professions, mentioning for example that the production of the famous carpets of Smyrna took place in Usak exclusively by women from the ancient times, due to the wealth of wool and coloring substances. He also cites the categories of professions in Usak, with the reminder that the Turks didnΆt practice the professions of moneychanger and goldsmith due to religious reasons, but they were involved in various commercial activities. The author also records the local traditions and customs that accompanied the people of Usak through all their important moments of social life, from their birth to their death. Finally, it presents the history of his family and he cites a catalogue of the Greeks in Usak.
