The book ?People and traditional professions in the Aegean II? by Ms Katerina Korre-Zografou, Professor at the University of Athens, completes the research on the traditional professions of the Aegean following the same complex course of collecting data of the first volume. It uses oral testimonies that result from on the spot research on the islands Mikonos, Naxos, Santorini, Rhodes and Kos, as well as from historical sources, archival documents, texts from travelers, valuable unpublished material from collections that are filed at the Laboratory of Folklore of the University of Athens and abundant photographic material. In this framework the book presents goldsmiths, pottery makers and weavers from Mikonos, ship carpenters and pebbled floors makers from Rhodes, tobacco cultivators and producers from Kos, vine cultivators and mule drivers from Santorini, basket makers, millers and shoemakers from Naxos and many other craftsmen who continue to resist the industrial character of modern professions and keep on exercising enthusiastically their ancient art. The craftsmen narrate their stories, which reflect the particular period of time and record the different structures of the island communities.
