"Priene" is a scientific book that focuses on the architecture and town planning of the city of Priene in Asia Minor, during Hellenistic Times. This is the first time that a thorough presentation of the subject has appeared in Greek, even though this specific Ionian city has been systematically excavated and there is plenty of relevant data.
The aim of the publication is to present the material comprehensively and in such a way that it satisfies researchers, architects and archaeologists as well as a wider, culturally-minded public.
The texts have been written by specialists (historians, archaeologists, architects and topographers) and are accompanied by architectural drawings of building restorations, perspective plans, in colour, photographs presenting the current state of the monuments, lithographs of the time, as well as pictures of the electronic model of the city and the wider area. The architectural drawings have been exclusively created by the team of Architectural Drawings, Rendering and Visual Communication. The text is supported by footnotes, visual glossaries of architectural terms, comparative references to similar monuments and an extensive bibliography.
Apart from using material already published, Priene presents, for the first time, unpublished material issuing from the revaluation of excavation finds, as well as from the conclusions of recent research. This new material is presented and assessed by Dr Wolfram Hoepfner, Professor at the University of Berlin, and Mr. Ioannis Arvanitis, architect and staff member of the FHW.
The volume was published in 2000 in both Greek and English.
