The book by Ms Marianthi Palazi "A name, two places: Epivates of Eastern Thrace, Neoi Epivates in Thessaloniki" follows the course of a refugee settlement in Greece. The route of the refugees from Eastern Thrace to Baxe Tsifliki in Thessaloniki reflects the long history of Hellenism, from the ancestors' homes to the lands of the modern Greek state.

The author focuses her study on the new site of settlement, using any flashback into the past not autonomously, like a nostalgic reminiscence, but in the framework of the new community as heritage and historical continuity. So, the references to the past, through customs, rituals and celebrations become meaningful for their role in shaping the identity and the sense of unity of the village's unity. Ms Palazi follows a scientific approach in the management of the material, combining various methods, from history and anthropology to folklore and ethnology. Particular emphasis is given to the use of mnemonic material through oral testimonies, which color events with the special personal perspective of the narration. However, the pages of the book mainly record the experiential relation and the love of the author for her birth place, which inject a wealth of ideas, images and emotions to the text.

The book is part of FHW"s publications that deal with the history of refugees settlements in Greece and constitutes a continuation of the work that begun with the volume After the Catastrophe. Asia Minor Refugees in Greece in the Interwar Period.
