In this book, Ms Katerina Korre-Zografou presents modern Greek and ethnic bracelets from the last two centuries, from her personal collection. All of them are the products of unknown artists, apart for very few contemporary ones: bracelets with chained elements, bracelets offered to brides, bracelets of circular shape, various bracelets and ethnic ones. The author, apart from the aesthetic value of the bracelets, brings to light elements that have to do with the social stratification of that period, since they constituted an indication of their owners' prosperity, while they had frequently an alternative use. The study utilizes archive material that consists of documents, travelers' texts and photographs. Especially private documents –great tool for studying local communities– reveal personal stories that are related to these objects and the various ways by which they passed from generation to generation or from owner to owner. Furthermore, important manufacturing centres, the materials used in their creation and the techniques and decorative motifs are presented. The study is accompanied by abundant photographic material, which documents the research and promotes the jewels of the collection.
