The Temple of Zeus

The decoration on the metopes

The twelve labors of Hercules are depicted on the twelve metopes of the pronaos and opisthodomos of the Temple of Zeus.

The labors depicted on the pronaos are as following:
1. The Erymanthian Boar
2. The mares of Diomedes
3. Gyriones' Cattle
4. The golden apples of the Hesperides (this is the most well preserved metope).
5. Cerberus, the three-eyed watch dog of Ades.
6. The Augean stables

The labors depicted on the opisthodomos are as following:
1. The Nemean lion
2. The Lernaean Hydra
3. The Cretan Bull
4. The Stymphalian Birds
5. The Cerynitian Boar
6. Hippolyte's belt.
