The Foundation of the Hellenic World designed and created the content of the applications that were developed for the "Innovative Centre of Historical Information of Thermopylae" of the Municipality of Lamia. The inauguration of the Centre took place on Monday 30 August 2010, in the framework of the cultural events "Thermopyleia 2010", in the presence of representatives of FHW, Local Administration and numerous people.
Initially the visitor watches the introductory three-minute film in the hall of preliminary information. Then, he enters the interactive applications hall, where in eight dynamic tables the multimedia applications examine the historical framework of the battle and its impact until the present days. There, through playing he collects information about the battle of Thermopylae.
Afterwards, there is the Virtual Reality hall, where he watches, wearing special glasses with the circular polarization technology, the screening of the three-dimensional film about the military equipment of Greeks and Persians.
The tour comes to an end with a journey into time. In the Virtual Reality application about the battle of Thermopylae the visitor is being transported into the battlefield and participates actively in the preparation of the soldiers before the battle. A museum educator serves as a navigator and through the use of a wireless remote control guides the visitors.
FHW was responsible for the historical, scientific and artistic supervision of the above mentioned applications.
This project by the Municipality of Lamia was funded by the Regional Operational Programme of Sterea Ellada, in the framework of the 3rd Community Support Framework. The contractor company of the project was TELMACO SA, which supplied and installed the relevant equipment.
