From Absolutism to Kemalism

The collection of articles by Michael Sofroniadis entitled "From Absolutism to Kemalism" cover the period 1905-1921, a period in which significant political developments took place in Constantinople and generally in the Ottoman Empire.
Michael Sofroniadis, pharmacist in Constantinople, author of special treatises, translator and journalist with intense social activity, provides through his articles a rare picture of the life and interests of the Greeks of the Ottoman Empire. The personal writings of an intellectual of the previous century and his caustic and critical attitude with which he faced the events and social phenomena -which remain highly topical even today- provide a special character in texts of diachronic value. At the same time, they stimulate interest in the final years of the Ottoman Empire, life in Constantinople and the course of Hellenism in Bosporus.
