Events
As part of our effort to inform and encourage participation in the programme for the collection of Genealogy Trees, FHW collaborates with cultural institutes and local administration organizations for organizing events, which can include:
- Presentation of the department's programmes, with the simultaneous promotion of audiovisual material from our digital collections and testimonies
- Presentation of the documentary "We Were Children Then... Reminiscences of Asia Minor Refugees", which is based on testimonies of surviving refugees
- A speech or a discussion relevant to the history of the refugees from Asia Minor, Black Sea and Thrace
- Speech informing about FHW's Genealogy Programme and more specifically:
- Distribution of printed questionnaires and instructions about the reconstruction of genealogy trees.
- Distribution of informative leaflets about Hellenic Cosmos and the magazine "News of Hellenic Cosmos" by FHW's Friends Association.
- Presentation of the printed and electronic publications and film productions of the Foundation.

Open discussion entitled “Make your own genealogy tree”
An open discussion entitled "Make your own genealogy tree" is organized by the Foundation of the Hellenic World on Sunday the 24th of May, at 12.00 o’clock, at the Cultural Centre "Hellenic Cosmos". The main speaker was Mr Michalis Varlas, Head of the Genealogy and Oral History Department of the Foundation of the Hellenic World.
In the framework of the event, those that attended were informed about how they can participate in the Genealogy programme and how they can discover their roots by creating their own genealogy tree. With examples from the impressive digital collections of the Genealogy department of FHW, they will have the opportunity to see how memories, documents and the photographs of the members of their families meet with the common history of Hellenism in Greece and abroad.
At the same time, and with the occasion of the completion of the web sites "Cultural and Genealogic Digital Collection of Central Macedonia" and "Cultural and Genealogic Digital Collection of Attica", the department of Genealogy and Oral History presents the work about family history and memory, which has been carried out in the twelve years from its operation. |
