Coinage

According to the account of the Byzantine historian Niketas Choniates, the Crusaders minted bronze coins using the material that the statues, which decorated the Hippodrome of Constantinople until 1204, were made of. Until today no coins have been found bearing clear references to names of Latin emperors of Constantinople. However, it is believed that the trachea (bronze coins) and the tetartera (golden, depreciated coins), which have been discovered and constitute imitations of Byzantine originals, had been minted by the Frankish conquerors of Constantinople.
